8 items you wouldn't expect at the dollar store for curly hair!
Updated: May 28, 2020
New year, new hair! Are you looking to start the year off right with your hair care routine, but don't wanna break the bank? Well in this blog post, I'll share with you 8 things you can get at Dollar Tree that can help you along your curly journey!
*Each Dollar Tree location has different items, so you may not be able to find everything at your location. I suggest going to more than one store to scope them out!*
1. Wide-tooth Comb
This is great for detangling your curls in the shower while your conditioner is in your hair, or for after the shower if you are distributing product!
2. Hair Pick
This is great for after your curls are 100% dry to help with placement and volume! There's actually 3 different types of combs in this. 3 for $1, that's my kind of deal!
3. Regular Cushion Hairbrush
I may get some back lash from this one, but I will say that for looser curl patterns and finer hair textures, using a brush before you shower can help break up product build up and stimulate your scalp!
4. Puffy Scrunchies (big & small)
These bad boys also are 3 for $1 (small) and 2 for $1 (large). Although satin scrunchies are the best, these are the next best thing to be more gentle on your curls than the regular skinny black hair ties. I like to use these for when you are sleeping or exercising!
5. Big Hair Clamp Clip
This clip can be great to quickly secure your hair up if you are showering and not washing your hair, or you can use it when you are sleeping. Click here to see my Instagram video on how I use this clip to protect my curls overnight while sleeping!
6. Small "Jaw Clips" or "Clamp Clips"
These clips are great for those looser or wonky curls that just don't want to cooperate with you. You can wrap your curl up wet and clip it together with one of these while it dries to help it maintain a curlier shape! They also work great to clip sections back out of your face.
7. Satin Pillow Case
I have not used this one yet guys. I gotta be honest, I am unsure how legit this one is. I bought one to test it and still need to wash it before using (as stated in the instructions). It probably isn't as good of quality from a real store, but it beats sleeping on cotton or polyester pillow cases!
8. Travel Sized Bottles or Jars
These are great for when you are traveling but want to stay using your curly girl approved products! A lot of the products we use don't come in a travel size sadly (unless it's Witch I Love Your Hair Magic Mist!!). There's no excuse to fall off your routine now!
Hope you found this useful! Let me know if you have any requests for any other low-budget stores for me to find items that us curlies can use!
